Success is no accident. Most successful people have certain success habits. So what habits of successful people can help you become a successful person?
It’s said that success leaves clues. People who accomplish great things possess certain traits of successful people. And I don’t mean morning habits or routines or daily habits.
It has more to do with a mindset – the success mindset, attitudes, and habits of thought that give some people an edge in helping them achieve their dreams.
Do you believe that if you do what most successful people do you will become successful too? You should, because your beliefs become your reality!
“Your beliefs become your reality.”
Success is a mindset! Your pattern of thought is the critical factor in how your daily life will turn out. And it’s based on habits that will either make you successful or unsuccessful.
If you keep your thoughts focused on what you want, you’ll have the mindset of a successful person, because you become what you think about most of the time.
“You become what you think about.”
It takes preparation, determination, and inspired action to succeed in life. And there are some habits of highly successful people that make them more likely to succeed than others.
Become a Successful Person with Success Habits of Successful People
So have you ever wondered what highly-successful people do differently in their quest to achieve great things? What habits of successful persons can you adopt?
Here are some of the success habits of successful people that will help you become more successful.
#1. Successful people set clear goals
It is essential to have goals because you need a focal point. To be successful, you need to know exactly what you want to achieve and have a plan for how to get there.
Most successful people who accomplish great things set long-term goals for themselves and break them into short-term goals.
“If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time.” ~ Zig Ziglar
On a piece of paper, write down 5 to 10 goals that you want to achieve by a certain age. Which one is the most important to you? Focus on that goal as much as possible.
At the end of each day/week/month/year, ask yourself if you’ve made a little more progress on your biggest goal. If you haven’t, what can you do differently in order to achieve it?
In this Free Webinar with Jack Canfield, you’ll learn 6 steps to achieve any goal and create an extraordinary life by focusing on one big goal at a time.
Learn how to go from where you are to where you want to be, with mindfulness of your present situation. Build your roadmap and design a detailed plan to accomplish big goals that are in alignment with the life you want.
#2. Successful people are self-driven
No matter how big or small your goals may be, you need to take consistent and persistent action to make them a reality.
Most successful people are “Do-ers.” They take action. They get things done. People who accomplish great things never let go of their purpose or why they started, because they understand that success is not an accident.
“Success is not an accident, success is a choice.” ~ Stephen Curry
Successful entrepreneurs are self-driven. They don’t wait for others to give them permission to do what they should already be doing. They achieve success because they are willing to get in alignment and take inspired action on their goals.
#3. Successful people believe in themselves
Before you can accomplish anything you must believe that success is possible. Successful people believe in themselves and their potential.
If you lack self-belief and self-confidence, your doubts will hold you back and prevent your goals from coming to fruition. Instead of thinking “I could never succeed at that” turn it around to “If they did it, I can do it too”.
“Believe you can….and you are halfway there!” ~ Theodore Roosevelt
When compared to others with the same aptitude, skill, and knowledge, those who have confidence in themselves are statistically more likely to perform better than those who constantly doubt and mistrust themselves.
This Believe in Yourself audio hypnosis session will help you see yourself more realistically and improve your chances of succeeding in life. Listen to it every night before you fall asleep for at least 30 days to reprogram your mind for success.
#4. Successful people are optimistic
Optimism is a key characteristic of successful people. They don’t worry about the things they can’t change or the negative emotions that will hold them back.
A positive attitude can help you stay motivated and focused on your goals, and also help you attract success and abundance into your life.
As Disney CEO, Bob Iger said:
“What I’ve really learned over time is that optimism is a very, very important part of leadership. No one wants to follow a pessimist… You can be skeptical, you can be realistic, but you can’t be cynical. If your boss is Eeyore, do you want to work with someone like that? Oh, bother.”
Another reason why optimism is one of the most important qualities of a successful person is that it will give you the resilience to bounce back after the inevitable setbacks and failures you will face along your journey.
Instead of dwelling on their failures, successful people know that every failure is a step to success and that failure teaches success. They see failure as an opportunity for learning and growth and know that you learn more from failure than from success.
In Jack Canfield’s Free Guide to Overcome Negative Thoughts and Feelings, you’ll experience the power of positivity and learn how to attract positivity, wealth, and abundance while lifting your spirits through daily affirmations, support, goal setting, prioritizing, and more.
“We’re asking you to trust in the well-being. In optimism, there is magic. In positive expectation, there is thrill and success.” ~ Abraham-Hicks
#5. Successful people take responsibility for their lives
To be successful in an entrepreneurial venture you need to have a positive outlook on life and see the possibilities all around you. Successful people take 100% responsibility for their situations and for their lives.
Taking 100% responsibility for your life means not blaming others or making excuses for your circumstances, but rather taking control of your life and making the most of it.
If you like to play the blame game or whine about why this or that isn’t working out for you, or make excuses for your lack of success, you will continue to be unsuccessful.
#6. Successful people choose their responses carefully
Most successful people are not more blessed than others. They have seen tragedy and heartbreak too. However, they know that it’s not what happens to you that matters, but how you respond to it.
“It’s not what happens to you that matters, but how you respond to it.”
They just refuse to be the victims of circumstances and channel their pain into transformation. They know that cultivating emotional and mental discipline is the key to success, and choose how they want to respond to situations instead of having knee-jerk responses to them.
It does take practice to slow down one’s thoughts and responses enough to recalibrate them in the direction you want, but learning meditation and mindfulness can help you choose more appropriate and healthy responses to situations and help you succeed in life.
“Mindful meditation has been discovered to foster the ability to inhibit those very quick emotional impulses.” ~ Daniel Goleman

#7. Successful people are solution-focused
Success often requires overcoming obstacles and setbacks. Successful people spend most of their time focused on solutions, not problems.
They know that the problem is at a different vibration than the solution. To be a successful entrepreneur you must be able to access the answers you need by staying focused on the solution, not on the problem.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” ~ Albert Einstein
#8. Successful people have a growth mindset
One of the key qualities of a successful person is that they have a growth mindset – they believe they can learn the skills they need to succeed.
People who have a growth mindset tend to achieve more than those with a fixed mindset – those who believe their talents are innate.
“It’s not that I’m so smart. It’s just that I stay with problems longer.” ~ Albert Einstein
Successful business people think about what they want, learn new skills, and find better ways to achieve their goals. In the internet age, they know that any entrepreneur skills they need to learn are just a click away.
Ask yourself – of all the results that I could get, what one result would help my business the most? What business skills do I need to learn to make that happen?

#9. Successful people have a high EQ
One of the qualities of successful people is that they know the importance of soft skills, such as excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build authentic relationships in their personal and business lives.
Successful business people know that if they want to be successful, they must surround themselves with successful people who will encourage and support them when they need it. When you surround yourself with successful people you’ll be motivated and inspired to achieve your own success.
Emotional intelligence is an essential interpersonal skill to recognize and control both your own and other people’s emotions. It helps resolve issues, communicate clearly, and forge close bonds with others.
People with a high emotional quotient (EQ) are usually better at interpreting social cues, expressing their own emotions, and demonstrating empathy for others, which helps them build more fruitful and satisfying relationships.
As Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, who pioneered Non-Violent Communication (NVC), said, “We are dangerous when we are not conscious of our responsibility for how we behave, think, and feel.”
“We are dangerous when we are not conscious of our responsibility for how we behave, think, and feel.” ~ Marshall B. Rosenberg
Successful leaders know that healthy communication is the key to success in the workplace and in personal relationships. They often have a high Emotional Intelligence or EQ (Emotional Quotient) or are willing to learn the skills they need to win friends and influence people.
In this 21-day Crash Course in Emotional Intelligence with psychologist and author, Dr. Patricia Thompson, you’ll learn how to increase your EQ with the tools to understand and manage your emotions, influence and motivate others, and experience deeper, more fulfilling relationships.
#10. Successful people have faith & trust
The most successful people have faith when working toward their goals. They refrain from giving in to impatience (which is a lack of faith and trust in the Universe).
They know that everything takes time, that all things have a gestation period, and are not discouraged if they fail to achieve their goals quickly. They know that the rewards of success are great and that they do not come overnight.
“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” ~ Thomas Edison
Successful people know that there’s no such thing as instant success or overnight success. They are willing to have faith and trust in the intelligence of the Universe, while they do the work it takes to accomplish their dreams.
#11. Successful people are courageous
Successful people are prepared to take calculated risks toward achieving their goals. They are willing to invest time, money, and effort in their dreams, and don’t give up because they’re afraid of the prospect of failure.
For example, Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated for taking action against racial injustice. Because of his courage in working toward racial equality, his dream has become a reality for so many African Americans today, even if he did not benefit directly from it.
“Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” ~ Warren Buffett
#12. Successful people know the value of their time
Successful people don’t spend their focus on low-value jobs. They understand the benefits of outsourcing work and freeing up time to focus on high-value jobs.
There are two kinds of actions you can choose to take:
- Actions that move you in the direction of your goals
- Actions that do not move you in the direction of your goals
It is human nature to do the easy tasks first, but these are usually the actions that will not move the needle for your business. This is the Antithesis of success.
Successful entrepreneurs focus only on the actions that move them in the direction of their goals and don’t spend time on actions that don’t move the needle in their business.
As Peter Drucker said, “Do fewer things, spend more time on those things, and outsource the rest.”
“Do what you do best and outsource the rest.” ~ Peter Drucker
Your weakest skill will be the barrier to your business growth unless you learn how to outsource tasks that are not your area of expertise.
Remember that YOU, your thought, your action, and your focus, determine your success. You hold success in your hands.
So, if you want to be successful, adopt these success habits of successful people. You’ll be more likely to become a successful person if you do the things successful people do.
